Choosing basic lighting is not just a question of selecting the right brightness.
Windows draw in the light and mood from outside, whereas ceiling lights and built-in lighting are forms of creative expression that fill the room with a warm, neutral white aura.
Tip: Dispensing with fabric shades not only prevents yellowing, but also opens up the room for clear, inviting light.

Functional lighting
Perfect illumination for effective cooking: Under-cabinet lights in the kitchen
When you’re busy cooking up meals in the kitchen, the right lighting is especially important. Bright, cool light over the worktop is good for your eyes and enables you to focus on the job in hand. Different types of downlight luminaires discreetly light up the room, creating a safer environment.
Here it is important to know that the slimmer and more discreet your light fittings are (for example, inside the handle profile), the more effectively they disappear from view in the daytime when they’re not needed.
Tip: A distance of at least 50 cm between lighting and the worktops or cooker is mandatory, otherwise it will be dazzling or take up space.
Interior lighting for pull-outs and drawers sets the scene inside: interior cabinet lighting allows you to see everything quickly. This saves time, which can be used more sensibly than for long searches in the dark.
Always in style: bulky kitchen utensils and crockery can be stored in the illuminated glass roller-shutter for visually appealing storage.
Indirect lighting
Indirect lighting in the kitchen: design statement in the evening
The magic of indirect lighting unfolds in the evening. Skilfully integrated LEDs transform the dormant kitchen into a design statement. Warm light here and there, from grip ledges to skirting boards, creates a romantic atmosphere that invites you to stay awhile.
The lighting in our Newport Satin kitchen model has a significant influence on the feel-good factor of the kitchen. In addition to lighting for work, the interior lighting of the pull-outs, the recessed handle light and plinth light create the right atmosphere. Another highlight of the kitchen is the illuminated tall glas display, which highlights design and kitchen utensils behind its grey glass doors.
Colour temperature and luminous intensity
The colour temperature of light: a creative design element
The colour temperature of the lighting is the most important creative design feature. Cold to daylight white work lighting creates a dynamic environment, whereas warm white light sets the mood in the dining area. A luminous intensity of 250–300 lumens per square metre lights up the room perfectly.
Tip: find out more about light temperatures in kelvins – daylight is in the range of around 5000 kelvins, whilst neutral white working light is between 3000 and 4000 kelvins.
