Clown visits
– Being present, bringing joy, connecting through laughter!

Elisabeth Makepeace-Vondrak, chairwoman of the "Dachverband Clowns in Medizin und Pflege", explains how a hospital clown visit works:           

"The illness doesn't really matter. We focus on the healthy aspects of the person. The clowns always come in pairs, they knock and ask if they can come in. Once in the room, they sense the mood to find out what the child needs: [...] We also visit nursing homes. [...] That's more about being there, listening, feeling, and lots of music." 

Clowns visit sick children

Laughing encourages the healing process! That was the inspiration behind the idea of regular clown visits to children's hospitals in the USA in 1986. Since the 1990s, “clown visits” have also been taking place in Germany. Being hospitalized is a difficult situation for children. They are torn from their familiar environment and exposed to stress and uncertainty. Visits from professional hospital clowns help children and parents escape the clinical routine for a moment with laughter and fun and recharge their batteries. They make the often difficult time spent in hospital easier for young patients, strengthen their mental state and promote recovery processes.
